Built on LEAP’s successful Leadership Through Philanthropy curriculum, “Leadership and Giving Back” is designed to address the needs of working professionals of color who are searching for ways to give back and get involved in the community, while demonstrating and developing leadership skills that can be brought into the workplace.
Outcomes of the symposium are:
- Understanding that giving back is a form of leadership
- Awareness of cultural and community influences on leadership styles and giving and volunteerism patterns
- Learning that there are multiple ways of giving back through “time, talent and treasure”
- Development of an integrated short- and long-term career plan/strategy
Three concurrent breakout sessions for the Asian, Black and Hispanic communities will focus on “Leadership and Giving Back” from a cultural perspective and will incorporate community history, demographics, diversity, community issues, myths and misconceptions, economic and philanthropic data, as well as culturally-specific definitions of community, shared cultural values and giving back.
Leadership Through Philanthropy is a collaborative project of Leadership Education for Asian Pacifics, Inc. (LEAP), National Black MBA Association (NBMBAA), National Black United Fund (NBUF), National Society of Hispanic MBA's (NSHMBA) and Volunteer Consulting Group, Inc. (VCG) with funding provided by the Charles Stewart Mott Foundation and the Cultures of Giving Fund, established at the Rockefeller Philanthropy Advisors with major support from the W.K. Kellogg Foundation.
